The Vice-Chancellor of Hormuud University, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐢 𝐎𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐲𝐞, paid a high-level courtesy visit to 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐫. 𝐓. 𝐁. 𝐇. 𝗪𝐢𝐭𝐣𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐢, 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, to advance a bold initiative aimed at forging durable academic, institutional, and people-to-people linkages between 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 and 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡-𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚.
During the meeting, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐢 articulated 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐮𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 strong academic, and institutional commitment to partnering with 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 and 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬. He emphasized Indonesia’s global reputation in quality higher education, applied sciences, Islamic higher education, technology, agriculture, maritime studies, entrepreneurship, and governance, positioning Indonesia as a natural and strategic partner for 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 and the wider 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. He further underscored 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐮𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 readiness to serve as a regional gateway institution, connecting Indonesian universities with Africa through structured academic cooperation, joint programs, research collaboration, and institutional capacity building.
His Excellency the Ambassador warmly welcomed and strongly endorsed the initiative, recognizing its strategic importance and long-term value for both regions. He expressed Indonesia’s clear willingness to facilitate direct engagement between Hormuud University and leading Indonesian universities, associations, and academic councils. The Ambassador noted that the proposal aligns seamlessly with Indonesia’s broader vision of South–South cooperation, educational diplomacy, and knowledge transfer. The discussions went beyond bilateral cooperation and explored the establishment of permanent academic and institutional mechanisms that would link South-East Asia and Africa, including joint centers, networks, and platforms dedicated to education, research, innovation, and policy dialogue.
Both parties agreed that such institutions would play a transformative role in bridging regions, transferring knowledge, building human capital, and promoting shared development objectives.
