Faculty of Engineering

Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering at Hormuud University. We feel proud that among all private universities in Somalia we are the pioneer in establishing the graduate programs in Telecommunication, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering and Civil Engineering.


The Faculty provides education characterized by quality and relevance. Students enrolled in our programs take balance set of modules to obtain a solid foundation in engineering and general education. Our Students undergo industrial and vacation training to acquire and sharpen their technical and communication skills.

As well as the professional approach of the Faculty, Alhamdulillah, here at Hormuud University, we are proud to offer a high-quality education and friendly environment where the students can generate creative ideas, develop the teamwork attitude and leadership skills needed for their professional careers.

Our programs develop the knowledge and professional skills of our students, for careers that lead the future development of Electronics, Communications, Mechanical, Civil Engineering and Computing technologies. The university has developed numerous lab facilities for the students, which includes Communication lab, Computer lab, Internet and simulation lab, Electronics lab, Circuit, and measurement lab, Microprocessor lab, Physics lab, Civil Engineering labs as well as Geology labs.

Highly qualified academic members are leading the faculty (most of them completed their higher education from renowned universities in the world).

The faculty currently offers the following degree programmes:

  • Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication Engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

Buruuj Construction and Real Estate Company was incorporated in 2009 with the objective of providing a world class construction services as well as ensuring it is within the affordability range of the Somali people-who really are in dire need of affordable housing and office solutions.

This has led to establishment of BECO on the 5th of May 2014 where major electricity companies in Benadir region decided to join forces and unite under one large and more resourceful firm that is capable of offering reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity to the growing market demand.

We lead Somalia’s telecommunication industry with our state-of-the-art services, which include Mobile service (GSM), landlines and mobile linked internet services (such as Mifi4G, Adsl,W-dsl and Hotspot). We cover Southern and Central regions of Somalia and cater to people’s needs of communication. We are not only known for our reliable and expert services but for our charity too. 

Association of Somali Universities (ASU) is a non-profit organization with a vision of promoting collaboration among Somali universities in the areas of research, quality, standards, innovation and development. The members of the association are the major higher education institutions in the country and it is established to bring together these institutions to work together on issues benefiting to the community at large.

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology is also known as is the first non-government university in Bangladesh. It was established in 1991 under the Private University Act 1992. The university is also a full member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU),London.

The decision to create the AAU was taken at a meeting of Heads of African Institutions of Higher Education held for this purpose at the University of Khartoum, Sudan in September 1963. The International Association of Universities assisted in planning and making administrative arrangements for this meeting and was invited to cooperate with the Interim Committee that was set up to draft a constitution for the AAU.

It is a licensed association in Turkey No. 5827 and Lebanon No. 640, which deals with the problems of higher education in the world, technicians cooperation frameworks between Arab and international universities, and management of educational and university institutions at all levels.

The Association of Arab Universities, also called the Union of Arab Universities, is an organization working within the framework of the Arab League. It is based in Amman, Jordan. The objective of the organization is to support and connect universities in the Arab world, and to enhance cooperation among them.

It was founded on 28 September 1905 in Singapore as the King Edward VII College of Medicine and  on 8th October 1949, it became the University of Malaya with  the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College (founded in 1928).

Lincoln University College, Petaling Jaya was established in 2002 as Lincoln College (LC) and upgraded in 2011. Lincoln University College is one of the premier private institutions of higher education approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualifying Agency (MQA- National Accreditation Board).
